The story of Our Toy Drive…
The idea of a toy drive originated in 2021 when Jaime Kalnicky and the Ice Denette Synchronized Skating Team were inspired to give back in the form of a toy drive. Utilizing their many skaters for collection and her contacts on the reservation in northeastern Arizona, she reached out to Camelback Moving and me for logistics and delivery support. Her timing was perfect, as my company was actually looking for a toy drive to partner with and devote time and resources to. The result was larger than anyone expected and an enormous success as we were able to deliver 645 total gifts to a community really in need.
In the three following years the drive has grown bigger and better, now including much needed clothing and furniture. We expanded our corporate partnerships to assist in collection efforts. Our partnership with Glenda Wheeler with Black Mountain Rescue as a distribution partner has brought the drive to communities across the reservation when the need was the greatest. This also included relief efforts in the form of four large trucks of donation furniture to Chinle Arizona after flooding in 2023.
This year’s results were by far the best yet. The two trucks of toys and clothing alone nearly filled the gymnasium at Tonalea Day School and served 764 individuals. The amount of furniture donation was so great that they had to be delivered a few days later and was also the equivalent of two large box trucks.
I’m so grateful to be in a position to give back in this manner and impressed by the generosity of our clients, friends, families, partners and the community here in the valley. Seeing the results with Jaime, Glenda’s team and school officials this year filled my heart. Here’s a short video with just some of the highlights.
